Photography allows us to capture moments in time, preserving memories that hold deep meaning. The images we cherish remind us of special occasions, thoughts, and emotions we want to hold onto forever. How many of those memories are stored on your phone right now?
For me, the most meaningful photos are those that tell a unique story—whether about the person, the scene, or the object being captured. They stand out when they evoke a powerful emotion for anyone who views them.
Take a look at the Nature Photography below: the photo of lights reflecting on water whispers “Quietly Serene.” The vibrant Orange photo radiates “Absolute Joy,” while the striking Blue photo exudes “Resolved Determination.” These images resonate because they communicate something deeper, making them the ones we return to time and time again. They’re special.
I researched the color maroon and discovered it’s often associated with evoking a sense of worry. My goal was to bring that emotion to life through a monochromatic composition centered entirely around maroon.
Excitement overload! Orange is known for bringing feelings of energy and enthusiasm. When I think of orange, the fruit instantly comes to mind. To capture that vibe, I asked my model to toss oranges at me while showcasing an expression of pure excitement.
It was definitely a bit awkward at times... Some of the expressions felt like a stretch since there are only so many emotions that pair naturally with certain colors. Even so, I’m really pleased with how it all turned out!
I wanted this to convey the feeling of being in love. Pink naturally symbolizes love, making it the perfect choice to pair with an expression that embodies that emotion.
Confidence is key, and there’s something about gold that exudes confidence. Earning gold feels empowering, which is why I chose it to represent this feeling and bring that energy to life.
Here’s an obvious pairing, blue and sadness. I loved creating this piece because of the striking contrast between her freckles, skin tone, and the blue background. It turned out just as I envisioned.
The inspiration for this photo came from the character Disgust in the movie Inside Out. I feel it perfectly captures the emotion I aimed for, and her expression truly comes through in the image just as I envisioned.
This one, like the previous, is inspired by the movie Inside Out, with a clear pairing of red and anger. My model did an excellent job channeling his frustration—especially with having to pose for me!
When you think of yellow, you think of sunshine, sunflowers, and bananas—things that all bring joy. That’s why I chose to associate yellow with happiness.
